Heroic Books have acquired world rights to publish British author Quillem McBreen’s debut fantasy novel THE TENETS OF TRUTH.
In THE TENETS OF TRUTH, the Church of the Righteous Truth’s rule stretches ever outward across Alytheia. Jealous defenders of the Goddess’s magic, the church sees all, controls all: trade, military, the ancient arts of wielding and cognation — even life and death.
As both the clergy and the House-Lords jostle for the realm, four unlikely commoners may hold the fate of the kingdom in their hands — and when the truth of a holy artefact is uncovered, destinies become entwined, and the pressures of the world around them will lead to revolution, sacrifice, redemption and self-realisation.
Quillem McBreen himself said: “As a totally new author, The Tenets of Truth is my first foray into writing and it’s something that was burning in me for so long — I knew it was the story I had to write.
The book deals with themes like oppression, manipulation and institutional gaslighting. There are twisted loyalties, repressive religious dramas, power-hungry noble houses and, beneath all that, a series of characters who, in one way or another, wake up and seek to challenge the existing order of things. I’m so excited to be able to share it with readers.”
McBreen, who is from Liverpool, is a writer of adult fantasy, and The Tenets of Truth is his debut novel and the first in his Alytheian Cycle series. Inspired to write through his discovery of audiobooks and his fascination with the way words are transformed off the page, he cites Brandon Sanderson, Bernard Cornwell and John le Carré as influences on his own work. Away from his writing career, he works in local government and holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Liverpool.
